Reblogged this on Wine, Coffee, Life and commented:
This is fascinating and the most interesting pat for me was, “Along the same lines, Wismeijer also suggested that accepting one’s unusual sexual preferences and choosing to live in a societal niche like the BDSM community might involve huge amounts of psychological work, which could translate into positive mental health.”

I know this was true for me because I really struggled as I came to terms with my submission and spent a LOT of time analyzing, researching, writing and getting clear in my own head that there was nothing wrong with me! During that process, I learned a lot about myself becoming much more self-aware of who I am and what my needs & desires are. That was healing and powerful for me. Not that I don’t struggle with it still just because I discovered it once I was married and it has created some massive issues in my life – but the issues aren’t because I’m conflicted about myself or who I am, but because I’m trying to figure out to live my needs inside a life that wasn’t built with this reality in mind.

There is a great deal of self discovery on this journey, that is one of the greatest things about it. To say that it ends is also incorrect as it is a constant learning and growing process. Even for myself I was talking with someone the other day about as how I have become more outgoing in my day to day life since I have begun embracing this lifestyle.

You are so right that this is a journey that never ends. I find myself assessing, evaluating and learning more about myself and my reactions as I encounter new challenges.

Thank you for sharing that Ms Mahler.

It is about time that this is recognized as more then a good excuse for hardcore porn pictures and mainstream erotica.

I’m not surprised that we who play this way have a better outlook. We have to work though our mental cupboards or deal with it in a far more upfront kind of way. And that goes for all sides of the equation. You have to have that faeces coagulation factor going for you.
