Ring of Fire

By | October 11, 2013

This morning while I was drinking my coffee after climbing out of bed; I was floating around on Tumblr.
I came across a picture of Johnny Cash which brought me around to thinking about this song.

There is some disagreement as to the meaning of the song.
There are some who believe that it was co-written by Cash and his wife June Carter, that it was meant to talk about the love they shared between them.

Cash’s first wife said that it was not co-written by Cash and Carter but written by Cash many years before he even met her and had to do with female genitalia.
She claimed Cash gave Carter co-writer status on the song because she needed the money.
Truth or just a case of sour grapes?

I’ve always liked the song and prefer to believe the former.

Love is a burnin’ thing,
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire ran wild.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down,
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The ring of fire

I have always loved Johnny Cash and in particular, this song. I don’t care if he’s talking about pussy or the woman he loves. Hell, in some relationships, they’re one and the same. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’ve always liked this song as well, and yes in certain relationships they are interchangeable.
Makes me wonder if he may have been in the lifestyle…lol

Ring of fire is great! Folsom city blues came on the pandora this morning as I was getting ready for a meeting. Johnny shows up on all stations, he crosses so many boundaries.

He does at that, it doesn’t matter what type of music you like it is hard to find someone that doesn’t like his music.

You can’t argue that it’s a song about love and love can be brightly burning, fiery ring at times… This is one of those songs that will stand the test of time.
