Today I lost a good friend

After lunch today I received a call, I knew the number when it came up on the ID and I couldn’t figure out why as they never call me at work.

A good friend of mine passed away of a heart attack, the thing that made it even harder and unbelievable is he was only 37.

I’ve know W for over 18 years, he is the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back.
He had such a funny quirky sense of humour and it was one of the reasons we got on so well.

When I say he would give someone the shirt off his back I don’t mean it figuratively I mean it literally.
There would be times when his ex wife would be pinched for money and he would give her back the child support she paid.Yes, he has a little boy, one he loved dearly and he had full custody. W was home during the week to take care of his son.
He worked Sat. morning straight through to Sunday night while his ex had their son, that was his work week so he could be with the boy.

The last time I saw W was just before my trip, we were talking about what I was planning on doing and he was as excited about it as I was myself. He warned me to bring some warm clothes and I’m glad I listened because he was right.

Two years ago when my grandmother passed away, just before that I had plans to travel up to see her as I knew she wasn’t doing well.
I tried to move my flight up but the airlines wanted as much money as it cost me for the tickets in the first place and I couldn’t afford it.
This meant that I wouldn’t be able to make it my grandmothers funeral.
W had called me and asked if there was anything he could do. I told him what was going on that I couldn’t change my flight and might not be able to make it up north.
An hour later he called me back and said he talked to the funeral home and they would hold the funeral till I could get there.
I asked him how he managed that and he told me it was professional courtesy. See W was a Funeral Director.

They say the good die young and it certainly seems that way.He will be missed; his laughter, his sense of humour, his caring and giving to others, his love of life.

Thankfully I have a very close and dear friend who has been with me through this and I am very grateful.

Rest in Peace W
