Ring of Fire

This morning while I was drinking my coffee after climbing out of bed; I was floating around on Tumblr.
I came across a picture of Johnny Cash which brought me around to thinking about this song.

There is some disagreement as to the meaning of the song.
There are some who believe that it was co-written by Cash and his wife June Carter, that it was meant to talk about the love they shared between them.

Cash’s first wife said that it was not co-written by Cash and Carter but written by Cash many years before he even met her and had to do with female genitalia.
She claimed Cash gave Carter co-writer status on the song because she needed the money.
Truth or just a case of sour grapes?

I’ve always liked the song and prefer to believe the former.

Love is a burnin’ thing,
And it makes a fiery ring
Bound by wild desire
I fell into a ring of fire.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The taste of love is sweet
When hearts like ours meet.
I fell for you like a child
Oh, but the fire ran wild.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

I fell into a burnin’ ring of fire
I went down, down, down,
And the flames went higher,
And it burns, burn, burns,
The ring of fire, the ring of fire.

The ring of fire
